Cartridge Care Tips

Friends of InkSpot,

InkSpot customers frequently ask "How many times can my ink cartridge be refilled?". If the cartridge is taken care of properly, many cartridges can be refilled 4-5 times, others over 10 times. Imagine saving up to 60% off buying a brand new ink cartridge ... 10 times.

To maximize your cartridge life, InkSpot recommends the following care for print-head cartridges (HP, DELL, Lexmark):<

  1. Do not run the cartridge bone dry, it will damage the print-head.
  2. Once the print out starts to streak or fade, bring cartridge in for a refill. It takes InkSpot about 10 minutes to refill your cartridge. When a cartridge sits empty, air gets in and drys out the print-head.
  3. For cartridges being brought in immediately, place cartridge in an envelope. Do not place tape over the print-head. When the color cartridge print-head touches plastic or tape, they enable one color to run into the other, contaminating the color cartridge.
  4. For cartridges not being brought in immediately, place a damp paper towel on side of cartridge, wrap cartridge in paper, place cartridge in a zip lock bag.

InkSpot recommends the following care for non print-head cartridges (Epson, Canon, Brother):

  1. Always keep a cartridge in each slot of printer (per owner's manual).
  2. If back up set of cartridges not available, take out cartridge for refill and place back into printer in same day.
  3. If printer does not have cartridges for more than 12 hours, air will enter print head causing damage to printer.
  4. Place empty cartridge in plastic bag to transport to InkSpot.
  5. Because the cartridge does not have a print-head, both full and empty cartridges can be left out of printer for weeks.

With proper cartridge care, your ink cartridge can be filled multiple times....multiplying your savings!

Sincerely,

Mike Lynch
